LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery Features and Specifications
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery features physical dimensions of (L x w x H) 20.5 x 9.37 x 8.54 inches (~52.1 x 23.8 x 21.7 cm) and it weighs only 47.4 pounds (~21.5 kg).
We say 'only' since this is a rather large battery being able to store 2560 Wh (Watt-hours) of energy in the package that actually can be easily carried around via its built-in handles.
Note: Ampere Time 24V 100Ah lithium battery is often labeled as BCI Group 4D battery, but it is actually a little bit larger, belonging to BCI Group 6D:
- BCI Group 4D: 20.75 x 8.75 x 9.875 inches (527 x 222 x 250 mm),
- BCI Group 6D: 20.75 x 10 x 10.25 inches (527 x 254 x 260),
- BCI Group 8D: 20.75 x 11.125 x 9.875 inches (527 x 283 x 250 mm).
This difference in width is not large, but it has to be mentioned, just in case.
The nominal voltage of a LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery is 25.6 volts, and during the discharge, the output voltage is kept above 24 volts for at least 90% of the discharge time.
The charging voltage should be around 29.0 - 29.2 volts.
Maximum continuous charging and discharging current is limited to 100 Amps - it is possible to recharge a fully discharged LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery in ~1 hour time if the temperature is not too high.
Also, the maximum short pulse current is 280 Amps for 5 seconds, allowing this battery to power loads with surge watts being much larger than their running watts (devices with electric motors, for example).
Battery Management System (BMS) monitors the parameters of the battery, preventing unwanted events like over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, battery temperature, and similar.
Note: The discharge temperature range of the LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery is from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C) while the charging temperature range is from 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C).
Also, BMS ensures that 2 LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium batteries may be safely connected in series, creating a 48V 100Ah lithium battery pack, and that up to 4 LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium batteries may be safely connected in parallel, creating 24V battery packs with 200Ah, 300Ah, and 400Ah capacity.
If You have the need to connect these batteries in series/parallel, always use batteries from the same manufacturer, of the same voltage and capacity, from the same batch - this ensures that the batteries feature the same BMS and that the batteries are of the same condition.
Note: Ampere Time 24V 100Ah lithium battery is very safe to use battery, but when it arrives, be sure to check its documentation, just in case.
The battery itself features a very low self-discharge rate and can be stored for many months at room temperature or at a somewhat lower temperature.
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery comes with M8 battery terminals, allowing firm contact with battery cables.
Since the battery doesn't feature any liquids, it can be placed in any position.
Another advantage of LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery over lead-acid batteries is an extra-large number of charging/discharging cycles.
When the battery is discharged down to 100% DoD (0% SoC), it is able to withstand up to 2000 charging/discharging cycles. When the battery is regularly discharged down to 50% DoD (50% SoC), the number of charging/discharging cycles is 5000+.
Such a number of charging/discharging cycles ensures that lithium batteries are very cost-effective and, in the long run, even cheaper than lead-acid batteries.
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah Lithium Battery as a Trolling Motor Battery
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery is an excellent 24V lithium trolling motor battery, being able to store large amounts of energy in a very lightweight package.
As such, it is commonly used even on smaller boats and pontoons that have room to accommodate a battery of this size and that have the need for a 24V electric trolling motor.
Most 24V electric trolling motors provide thrust in the 80-100 pounds (~36-45 kg) thrust range and have maximum currents in the 50-60 Amps range.
If the trolling motor is not pushed to its limit, and the discharge current is kept below 50A, LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery can power such trolling motor for ~2 hours, continuously.
If the trolling motor is used On and Off and at even lower currents, the LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery can power such a unit for a long time.
Note: some of the 24V electric trolling motors come with a built-in battery monitor intended for monitoring lead-acid (wet, AGM, Gel-Cell) batteries. Such battery monitors don't accurately show the remaining charge of the lithium batteries and may cause safety issues - people may think that they have plenty of charge left in the lithium battery, but the battery is already almost discharged ...
If you are looking for a 24V lithium trolling motor battery, consider an Ampere Time 24V 100Ah lithium battery.
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah Lithium Battery as a Power Inverter Battery
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery may be used as an excellent, lightweight power inverter battery.
With its 2560Wh of stored energy, 24+V output voltage, 100 Amps maximum continuous discharge current, and 280 Amps max. for 5 seconds current, LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery may be used to power up to 2000W power inverters (rated at 24V) with up to 5000 surge watts.
Note: 24 volt 2000W power inverter with an efficiency of at least 80-85% is the upper limit recommended for this battery. If You plan on pushing such a 24V 2000W power inverter to its limit constantly, go for a slightly stronger power inverter and two LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium batteries connected in parallel.
If the 24W power inverter runs a load of 1000W and features an efficiency of 85%, then:
P(battery) = P(inverter) / 0.85 = 1176 watts
I(battery) = P(battery) / U(battery) = 1176W / 25.6V = ~46 A
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery may power such inverter for ~2 hours.
Note: we have used the nominal voltage of the battery (25.6 volts), although, over time, this voltage drops. To compensate for voltage drop, the inverter draws a stronger current which is ~49 Amps, when the battery voltage drops down to 24 volts - the output voltage of the battery is 24V or higher at least 90% of the battery's discharge time.
If you are looking for a 24V power inverter battery, Ampere Time 24V 100Ah lithium battery might be the right choice for You.
How to Charge LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah Lithium Battery
LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery may be charged using 29.2 volts solar panels with up to 600W of power and with preferably MPPT charge controller suitable for charging lithium batteries.
Such solar panels may recharge the battery during the day, even if the conditions are not ideal.
According to the manufacturer, lead-acid 24V battery chargers may also be used to charge Ampere Time 24V 100Ah lithium battery, but only to ~70-80% of its nominal charge.
Personally, don't use lead-acid battery chargers to charge lithium batteries unless you can turn off desulfation and deep recovery (and perhaps equalization) charging modes - perhaps not even then...
For short, if You are going to charge your LiTime (Ampere Time) 24V 100Ah lithium battery with the battery charger, go for either a dedicated 24V lithium battery charger or a battery charger that features a dedicated charging mode for 24V lithium batteries.
Such battery chargers use the so-called CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) charging algorithm, safely charging the batteries and charging them fully.
