Best 12V 300Ah and 400Ah Lithium Deep Cycle Batteries
12V 300Ah and 400Ah lithium deep cycle batteries are becoming more and more popular for powering electric vehicles, trolling motors, as RV house batteries, as off-the-grid batteries, as inverter batteries, etc.
With their huge capacity, relatively lightweight construction, a large number of supported charging/discharging cycles, these batteries can directly support loads and energy requirements that were impossible to meet with much heavier lead-acid batteries just a few years ago.

12V 300Ah and 400Ah Lithium Batteries Features and Specifications
Deep cycle lithium batteries are based on the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry, which features a nominal cell voltage of 3.2V, a maximum charging voltage of 3.6-3.7 volts, and a minimum recommended discharging voltage of 2.6-2.8 volts.
Note: maximum charging voltage and minimum discharge voltage are model-dependent and may vary slightly from the battery to the battery.
In order to create 12V batteries, 4 (four) cells must be connected in series in order to create a battery with a nominal voltage of 12.8V.
When compared with similar 12V lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have some pros, including:
- a much larger number of supported charging/discharging cycles,
- lightweight construction,
- almost no capacity loss when the discharge current approaches 1C,
- higher discharge voltage - when discharged with 0.1C current, many lithium batteries hold their output voltage ~12.8V for at least 90% of their discharge time,
- faster recharging, etc.
However, lithium batteries also have some cons, including:
- more sensitive to charging/discharging conditions - hence, lithium batteries come with builtin Battery Management Systems (BMS), which protect the batteries from unwanted events, like overcharging, over-discharging, high and low temperatures, short circuits and similar,
- more sensitive when connecting them in parallel and/or series,
- higher initial price.
Of course, there are other pros and cons as well, but these are the most important ones.
12V 300Ah and 400Ah lithium batteries are physically large batteries and are usually offered as BCI Group 4D batteries, 6D batteries, 8D batteries, or as batteries with custom size. Standard BCI dimensions of the 4D, 6D and 8D battery groups are as follows:
- Group 4D Batteries dimensions: 20 3/4 x 8 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches (20.75 x 8.75 x 9.875 inches, 527 x 222 x 250 mm),
- Group 6D Batteries dimensions: 20 3/4 x 10 x 10 1/4 inches (20.75 x 10 x 10.25 inches, 527 x 254 x 260 mm),
- Group 8D Batteries dimensions: 20 3/4 x 11 1/8 x 9 7/8 inches (20.75 x 11.125 x 9.875 inches, 527 x 283 x 250).
Note: 300Ah and 400Ah batteries with 24 or higher output voltages can be found too, but these batteries are usually custom-built and cannot be found in standard dimensions.

As one can see, 12V 300Ah and 400Ah lithium batteries are big units that can store large amounts of energy and release it when most needed. And they are surprisingly lightweight when compared with lead-acid batteries.
Here is our list of the most popular and the best 12V 300Ah and 400Ah lithium batteries with their short reviews and recommendations - the list is ordered alphabetically:
Ampere Time 12V 300Ah Plus Deep Cycle Lithium Battery
Ampere Time 12V 300Ah Plus Deep Cycle Lithium Battery is one of the most popular and in the end, one of the best batteries in this class.
The battery features physical dimensions of 20.47 x 9.37 x 8.54 inches and as such, it belongs to the BCI Group 8D, although some sources claim that it is BCI Group 4D battery - such claims are typical for 4D/6D/8D batteries, hence the need to check the actual battery dimensions.
Also, the battery weighs ~63 pounds (~28.54 kg).
The built-in Battery Management System allows a constant discharge current of 200 Amps and 400 Amps for 5 seconds. The maximum allowed constant charging current is also 200 Amps, although 0.5C (150 Amps) is the maximum recommended continuous charging current.
Charging temperature is from 0°C to 50°C, with discharging temperature range between -20°C to +60°C.
The maximum load of the battery is considered to be 2560 Watts (12.8V x 200A = 2560W), however, as the battery is discharged, its output voltage slowly drops - not as nearly as the voltage of lead-acid batteries, but nonetheless, it drops.
Note: this goes for all similar lithium batteries, not just for the Ampere 12V 300Ah battery.
Thus, it is safe to assume that the battery can support 2400W (12V x 200A) most of the time - when the battery is being discharged, for example, with 0.5C (150A), the output voltage is >12V at least 75-80% of the discharge cycle.
Ampere Time 12V 300Ah battery comes with M8 battery terminals and supports 4000+ charging/discharging cycles.
Also, the battery supports up to 4S4P series/parallel connections, allowing the users to create battery packs with up to 1200Ah capacity and up to 48V (51.2V) voltage.
At first, the Ampere Time 12V 300Ah battery appears more expensive than a similar lead-acid battery, and initially, it is more expensive, but in the long run, it actually saves money.
