Best DuroMax Power Generators
DuroMax power generators are very popular power generators, offering good performances at affordable prices, sometimes at the cost of somewhat larger weight and higher noise.
But, with the introduction of newer DuroMax power generators (for example, iH, HX, DX, and similar models), DuroMax power generators offer reliable, safe, and relatively easy to use and maintain power generators at acceptable prices that fit the needs of various users.

Intro To DuroMax Generators
DuroMax power generators offer several types of power generators regarding their output power, fuel types, and other features and specifications.
Dual-Fuel DuroMax Power Generators
DuroMax is known for its dual-fuel power generators - these units can run on gasoline (gas) and on propane (LPG - Liquid Petroleum Gas).
When run on gas, dual-fuel power generators offer more power and are much easier to refill - just add gas to the gas tank and continue with the operation.
When run on propane, dual-fuel power generators lose some power, but not much. Also, when the propane bottle gets empty, it takes more time to replace it, than to add gas to the gas tank.
But, propane is a much cleaner fuel, easier on both environment and engine, prolonging the engine life. Also, propane is much easier to store over a longer period of time.
Although practically all dual-fuel DuroMax power generators also have similar gas-only generators, having a dual-fuel option can come in handy in many situations.
In short, if possible, always go for a dual-fuel power generator.
Tri-Fuel DuroMax Power Generators
At the moment of writing this article, DuroMax does NOT offer tri-fuel generators (gasoline/gas, propane, natural gas) and DuroMax does NOT offer any conversion kit that would allow their power generators to be converted to natural gas.
Such conversions are not officially supported, they are not safe and if done during the warranty period, the warranty is lost.
Note: regardless of the fuel type, no power generator (DuroMax or any other brand) should be operated indoors - power generators burn fuel and emit dangerous fumes and gasses that also include very toxic Carbon Monoxide. Before using any power generator, be sure to read its Owner's Guide, especially maintenance and safety issues, features, and procedures.
Carbon Monoxide Detector
Older models of DuroMax power generators didn't feature Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors, but newer generations of their units (for example, HX, iH, DX) do come with Carbon Monoxide detectors.
If/when Carbon Monoxide levels over a certain period of time reach dangerous levels, the engine is automatically shut off to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning - this does NOT mean that the power generators with such detectors can run indoors, it just shows how Carbon Monoxide can be dangerous!
Personally, having an additional layer of protection is great, so if possible, always go for a power generator with a Carbon Monoxide detector.
Open-Frame or Fully Enclosed Generator
Open-frame power generators feature steel frame construction, they are cheaper and various parts of the generator are easily accessible.
But, open-frame power generators tend to be noisier than fully enclosed power generators.
In many situations, noise difference is not an issue - for example, if You need a power generator for a construction site or workshop, the generator itself is often less noisy than the construction site or workshop.
But, having a quiet power generator also means that it can be run in urban areas, or when camping, tailgating, and similar, without disturbing the neighbors or even the users themselves with excessive noise.
Classic or Inverter Power Generators
Classic power generators are simpler and cheaper, but they also have somewhat higher fuel consumption, higher Total Harmonic Distortions (THD), and are not Parallel Ready power generators.
Thus, inverter power generators can be used to run sensitive loads due to often very low THD levels (for example, often <3% THD), while classic power generators can cause issues to sensitive devices and appliances due to the "dirty" voltage (high THD levels).
If You are looking for a power generator for the construction site or workshop, a classic power generator will do just fine, but for anything else, inverter power generators are highly recommended.
Inverter generators often support connecting two compatible power generators in parallel in order to provide more power.
Also, parallel connection kits often feature additional receptacles that are not available on the power generators - such receptacles may be, for example, 120/240V 30A L14-30R, 120V/240V 50A 14-50R, or similar receptacles.
If possible, go for inverter, parallel ready power generators.
DuroMax power generators feature typical receptacles required by home appliances, tools, devices, but also RVs and other high-power demanding applications.
List of receptacles include:
- AC 120V 20A 5-20R,
- AC 120V 30A TT-30R,
- AC 120V 30A L5-30R,
- AC 120V/240V 30A L14-30R,
- AC 120V/240V 50A 14-30R,
- DC 12V Automotive (Cigarette Lighter Adapter Port),
- DC USB 5V, etc.
Of course, not every power generator features all receptacles - if required, suitable adapters (for example, L5-30P to TT-30R) can be used to overcome this issue.
Most common safety features include overload protection (too large load is automatically disconnected to prevent any damage to the generator) and low-oil shutoff protection (engine is turned off to prevent any damage due to the low oil level).
Also, Carbon Monoxide detectors are highly recommended, although not present on older DuroMax models.
Don't call me lazy, but having an electric start is a great feature - just press the button and the engine starts.
And if that can be done using a remote fob, even better :)
But, a classic manual recoil system should be present as a backup, just in case.

Few Final Words
The actual list of DuroMax power generators is much longer than presented here in this article.
But, these power generators, although perhaps not the cheapest DuroMax units, are some of their best and highly sought for generators that can be very useful in countless situations.
But, whenever working with a new power generator, check its manual, especially maintenance and safety issues, features, and procedures.
And never, but really never run a power generator indoors ...
