Best Honda Power Generators

Honda manufactures some of the best and most durable and toughest power generators on the market, often with the same warranty for commercial and residential use.

Honda power generators are known for reliable and quiet operation and excellent craftsmanship. But, Honda power generators are also far from being the cheapest units on the market. On contrary, they are expensive units, but what You pay is what You get...

Honda Power Generators Naming Convention

Honda power generator labels usually include the name of the company ("Honda"), two letters about generator type, and the number describing the unit's Starting Watts.

Generator type letters are mostly:

  • EB industrial power generators feature GFCI outlets for better protection and increased safety.
  • EU and EU-i power generators are general-purpose portable power generators, designed to be as quiet as possible.
  • EM and EG power generators are general purpose power generators designed to run for hours and power, for example, homes during emergencies and power outages.

Additionally, some units are manufactured in several submodels, including the intended state of sale. For example, excellent Honda EU3000iS comes as:

- Honda EU3000iS1AN: for 49 US states,

- Honda EU3000iS1AG: for California.

These labels can be confusing, so they must be clarified. IMHO, of course.

For short, when looking for the new unit, choose according to your own needs and preferences :)

The following comparison chart lists some of the most popular Honda power generators with their most important features and specifications:

Note: Amazon affiliate links (the 'Model' column) open in the new windows, feel free to check them for the most up-to-date offers and prices. Also, we have really tried to verify every single bit of information in this chart and article (and in the end - our website), but there are sometimes certain discrepancies found even in data from the official website.

As one can see, Honda manufactures power generators from "entry-level" 1000W power generators to large and powerful 10 kW units.

Honda constantly improves their power generators by including new technologies and new features, including:

- CO-MINDER is Honda's advanced Carbon Monoxide (CO) detection system which continuously monitors the levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and if required, automatically shuts down the power generator before the detected Carbon Monoxide levels become dangerously high.

Note that older models that are still available on the market don't feature CO-MINDER - CO-MINDER or not, no power generator should be operated indoors!

eu2200i companion control panel

- Bluetooth connectivity combined with Honda's My Generator App, offers remote generator operation and monitoring. The app includes wireless stop, operation monitoring, and very important, service reminders. Also, power generators that feature electric start, can be started using Honda's My Generator App, which is available for both iOS and Android.

Honda's My Generator App allows the user to monitor several units at the same time.

Of course, older units, some of which can still be found on the market, don't feature Bluetooth connectivity and can't be controlled using the My Generator App.

- Honda's inverter technology ensures output voltage with a very low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) level, ensuring that most of its generators are able to power directly even very sensitive equipment.

Also, so-called iAVR (Intelligent Automatic Voltage Regulation) technology ensures consistent output power regardless of the load and also lets the generators operate well above their maximum rating for up to 10 seconds, allowing them to start high initial amp draw equipment.

Note: not all Honda generators feature iAVR technology - check the chart, and look for the "7000W (10s max.)" or similar text in the Running/Starting Watts column.

Honda power generators also come with many features that are also available on other power generators as well, including:

- Parallel Ready: In order to increase the output power, some models may be connected using Parallel Ready Cables, allowing two smaller (same or at least compatible) power generators to power much greater loads.

honda eu2200i parallel

- Eco Mode increases the fuel efficiency and prolongs the operating time on a single fuel tank - engine speed varies depending on the load, while the inverter controller ensures stable and smooth output voltage.

- 120/240V Selector Switch lets the user choose the operating mode of the L14-30R (120/240V 30A) and 14-50R (120/240V 50A) receptacles. When 120V only mode is used, power generators output is available through any of the 120-volt outlets, limited only by the capacity of the individual outlet enabling the users to power units with larger wattage requirements. When 240V mode is selected, the L14-30R (120/240V 30A) and 14-50R (120/240V 50A) receptacles can be used to power both 120V and 240V loads at the same time.

- Wheel Kits: Although portable, not all Honda generators come with wheels installed. But, Honda manufactures many 2-wheel and 4-wheel kits for its generators, so if required, they can be ordered quickly from various online stores.

- Additional safety features often include Low Oil Alarm, Low Oil Automatic Engine Shut Off, Overload Alarm, and similar.

Some models, especially somewhat older ones, feature digital centers which display maintenance remainders (change oil, change sparkplug, etc.), while newer ones provide such information via Honda's My Generator App, although digital displays may still be used as well - it is all model-dependent and differs from model to model.

Warranty Terms

Warranty terms and conditions vary from model to model, but most models have the same residential and commercial warranty. Why? Well, it is obvious that Honda itself believes in its units, just like many real-life users do.

Before buying a new Honda (or any other) power generator, check the warranty terms and conditions, just in case.

Honda Power Generator - Price

Honda power generators are not cheap, to say the least. Sometimes they cost several times(!) more than similar models from other brands.

Is this price worth it? Well, it all depends on your requirements and budget - if the price is important and the budget is limited then opt for some other brand.

But, if You are looking for reliable, durable, and tough power generators, generators that You can rely on, then consider Honda power generators.

Note: modern generators are relatively simple to use and maintain. But, when it arrives, Honda or not, be sure to thoroughly read the manual (Owner's Guide) in order to get accustomed to your new unit. And keep the Owner's Guide close to the unit, just in case.

Again, never, but really never operate ANY power generator indoors or in an enclosed area - and no, the open garage door does NOT mean open area...
