DeWalt 20V MAX to Ryobi 18V Battery Adapter Features and Specifications

Both Ryobi 18V and DeWalt 20V MAX batteries are basically 5-cell lithium batteries (~3.6V per cell) with a nominal voltage of 18V (hence "Ryobi 18V") and with a maximum charging voltage of ~20V (hence "DeWalt 20V MAX").

However, they are designed to be used by different, non-compatible tools and battery chargers.

DeWalt 20V MAX to Ryobi 18V battery adapters are designed to be attached to the DeWalt 20V MAX compatible batteries and to Ryobi 18V compatible tools, allowing the users to run Ryobi 18V tools using DeWalt 20V MAX compatible batteries.

However, it is strictly prohibited to charge DeWalt 20V MAX compatible batteries using Ryobi 18V battery chargers using these adapters - DeWalt 20V MAX batteries MUST be recharged using DeWalt 20V MAX compatible chargers.

Thanks to advances in electronics and the wide presence of USB-charged devices, many DeWalt to Ryobi battery adapters also feature one or more USB charging ports, transforming the DeWalt 20V MAX batteries into small USB chargers/power banks.

Other features, like small LED flashlights and similar, may also be present, but that depends on the adapter brand and model.

When using battery adapters of this kind, it is highly recommended to check the remaining battery charger more often and to recharge the battery on time - better safe than sorry.

If the DeWalt battery gets over-discharged, it must be "brought to life" by recharging it partially with the second fully charged battery, variable voltage power supply, or some similar method - and when the battery has large enough voltage to be recognized by the charger, let the charger finish the charging.

So, if You have Ryobi 18V tools without valid batteries, but You have DeWalt 20V MAX batteries, DeWalt to Ryobi battery adapters may help.

But, this is not supported by DeWalt or Ryobi. However, many users have already tested these adapters, and many of them have excellent reviews, so if You need one or more of these adapters, go for the models with good reviews.

Again, don't discharge your DeWalt batteries too much using battery adapters, and especially don't even try to recharge them using these adapters.
