Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS Sealed AGM Batteries
Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS are SLA AGM 12V starting batteries intended for use in motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, and other applications requiring compact but strong power sources.
Despite being designed as starting batteries, Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS batteries tolerate deep discharges better than typical wet/flooded starting batteries, but that is not what they should be used for.

Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS Batteries Features and Specifications
Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS batteries are two very similar batteries, differing only in the battery terminal orientation:
- Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS: negative battery terminal on the right side of the battery,
- Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS: negative battery terminal on the left side of the battery, hence the "L" letter as part of its label.
Other than that, these batteries are practically the same.
The physical dimensions of the batteries are (L x W x H) 5.20 x 3.50 x 6.40 inches (~13.2 cm x 8.9 x 16.3 cm), with battery terminals included.
Also, the batteries weigh ~10.14 lbs (~4.6 kg), which is an acceptable weight for the lead-acid YTX14AH-BS/YTX14AHL-BS batteries.
Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS batteries are Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries with increased resistance to vibrations and mechanical impacts. Also, they are designed as maintenance-free and spill-proof batteries that can be mounted in any position.
Note: Personally, don't mount them upside down. Vertically or on their sides is OK, but upside down, I am not 100% sure... Just my 2c.
Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS batteries' nominal voltage is 12V, a 10h capacity is 12Ah, and a CCA rating is 210 Amps.
However, according to the manufacturer, the batteries are able to provide:
- 110A down to ~9.6V for 2 minutes: 3.66Ah effective capacity,
- 42A down to ~10.2V for 10 minutes: 7Ah effective capacity,
- 14A down to ~10.8V for 30 minutes: 7Ah effective capacity,
- 1.4A down to ~11.0V for 10 hours: 14Ah effective capacity.
As one can see, the official 10h nominal capacity (12Ah) is even somewhat lower than the effective capacity when the battery is discharged for 10h (14Ah) - both batteries are very popular batteries, already tested by countless users in various situations, testifying their resilience and actual performances.
Note: If You need deep-cycle batteries of similar size and capacity, consider getting general purpose/deep cycle AGM or lithium 12V 12Ah or 12V 18Ah batteries, and use your Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS batteries only as starting/cranking batteries.
Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and YTX14AHL-BS batteries feature a very low self-discharge rate, which depends on the storage temperature:
- ~1.2% per month @0°C,
- ~2.4% per month @10°C,
- ~2.9% per month @25°C,
- ~5.7% per month @30°C,
- ~10% per month @40°C.
Thus, if you are going to store the batteries for a longer period of time, keep them at room temperature (or slightly lower), and if possible, connect them to a good battery maintainer.
When the battery is charged outside of the vehicle, the maximum charging current should be 2.8A or less.
Since the Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS/YTX14AHL-BS batteries feature a 12Ah nominal capacity, an AGM battery charger with a maximum of 2 Amps charging current can be used - some of the most popular battery chargers in this class are (Amazon affiliate links, open in the new window):
- NOCO Genius1 1A 6V/12V Lead-Acid and 12V Lithium Battery Charger
- NOCO Genius2 2A 6V/12V Lead-Acid and 12V Lithium Battery Charger
These battery chargers are very versatile units, suitable for charging 6V/12V lead-acid and 12V lithium batteries, and can be used to recover deeply discharged lead-acid batteries. Also, when the batteries are fully charged, they automatically switch to maintenance mode, keeping the batteries fully charged for a longer period of time - great for storing the batteries, among others.
But there are other good battery chargers on the market as well.
Long Story Short: Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS batteries are tough and durable cranking batteries that are able to start surprisingly large internal combustion engines (considering their size).
They tolerate deep discharges relatively well and have a rather low self-discharge rate. But, if you need similar deep-cycle batteries, go for general purpose/deep cycle AGM or lithium 12V 12Ah or 12V 18Ah batteries, and if you need to store Mighty Max YTX14AH-BS and Mighty Max YTX14AHL-BS, connect them to good battery maintainers.
