PacPow 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery Features and Specifications
As its label suggests, the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery is based on the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry and features a nominal voltage of 12.8V, a maximum charging voltage of 14.6V, supports maximum charging and discharging currents of 100A, and maximum surge discharge current of 300 Amps for 10 seconds.
The battery's physical dimensions are (L x W x H) 12.95 x 6.77 x 8.82 inches (~329 x 172 x 224 mm) and it weighs 27.56 pounds (~12.5 kg) - battery belongs to the BCI Group 31 batteries.
PacPow 12V 100Ah battery comes with a carry strap, allowing a single adult to carry it to shorter distances - much easier than a similar lead-acid battery!
The battery comes with an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) that protects the battery from overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, high/low temperatures, and short circuits.
Note: temperature protection allows the battery to be discharged between -20°C and 60°C and to be charged between 0°C and 45°C, but just like any other similar LiFePO4 battery, the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery performs best when being charged/discharged at room temperatures.
The built-in BMS also allows the user to connect up to 4 batteries in parallel and up to 4 batteries in series, enabling the user to create battery packs up to 48V (actual voltage 51.2V) and up to 400Ah in capacity.
Note: when connecting lithium batteries in parallel and/or series, always connect them as recommended by the manufacturer - this generally means that one should use batteries of the same type, brand, and preferably from the same batch. Batteries that are already used for some time (a few months, for example), should NOT be mixed with new batteries!
When compared with similar lead-acid batteries, the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery supports a much larger number of charging and discharging cycles (5000+ cycles, depending on the DoD%, charging/discharging current, temperature, and similar), it doesn't suffer from the capacity loss due to the increased discharging current, it is energy more efficient, 2-5x lighter, etc.
On the other hand, the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery MUST be recharged using dedicated lithium (LiFePO4) battery chargers or advanced AGM battery chargers that also feature dedicated lithium (LiFePO4) charging mode.
Note: although the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery features a 1C (100A) maximum charging current, in order to not overstress the battery, it is recommended to use 0.2C (20A) or a similar charging current. Thus, if You intend to purchase this battery and You don't have a dedicated battery charger, consider their PacPow 12.8V/14.6V 20A LiFePO4 Battery Charger (Amazon link, opens in the new window).
PacPow 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery As Trolling Motor Battery
PacPow 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery can be used as an excellent lightweight trolling motor battery - with its maximum discharge current of 100A, it can easily power 50-60 Amps electric trolling motors.
And if the trolling motor requires 24V, 36V, or even 48V, PacPow 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries can be connected in series to create 24V, 36V, and/or 48V battery packs.
For example, if You have a pair of 24V electric trolling motors with a maximum current of 50 Amps each (100 Amps total), a battery pack consisting of 8 (eight) PacPow 12V 100Ah batteries (24V 400Ah) can power them for up to 4 hours at full throttle.
And such battery pack weighs only ~220.5 pounds (~100 kg) - a similar lead-acid battery bank would weigh much much more ...
PacPow 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery As Power Inverter Battery
When powering off-the-grid and similar systems, batteries are commonly used as a source of DC electricity which is then converter to AC power using power inverters.
A battery pack consisting of 8 (eight) batteries connected in 2S4P features a nominal voltage of 24V, a maximum voltage of 25.6V, and a nominal capacity of 400Ah and is able to provide 400 Amps continuously and up to 1200 Amps for 10 seconds.
Note: PacPow 12V 100Ah battery can provide 300A for 10 seconds and in theory can crank smaller petrol and even diesel engines, but this is not what is this battery designed for - a smaller and a much cheaper lead-acid battery can do this task better, protecting the larger and more expensive deep-cycle lithium batteries.
For example, when PacPow 12V 100Ah lithium 2S4P battery pack is used as an inverter battery pack, it is able to deliver 400 Amps @24V (~9.6 kW) for almost an hour and 1200 Amps @24V (~28.8 kW) for ~10 seconds.
As such, this battery pack is excellent for power inverters up to 5-6kW of nominal power and 10-12kW of surge power.
For example, if 24V 4000W/8000W power inverter with energy efficiency of 90% is used, this battery pack is able to power it for:
P(Inv) = 4000W/0.9 = 4444W
I(Inv) = P(W) / U(V) = 4444W / 24V = ~185A
T(h) = 400Ah / 185A = ~2.16 hours
So, if 8 (eight) PacPow 12V 100Ah batteries are connected in a 2S4P battery pack, such a battery pack can power at least 2 hours fully loaded 4000W power inverter with an energy efficiency of 90%.
Long Story Short: Although a relatively new brand with a relatively new battery with almost useless documentation, the PacPow 12V 100Ah battery has everything that a good lithium deep-cycle battery must have - it is lightweight, it supports a large number of charging/discharging cycles, it accepts charge quickly (must be charged using lithium (LiFePO4) battery chargers), can be connected in series and/or parallel, etc.
If You are looking for a group 31 lithium battery, consider this model as well.
