Note: Amazon links open in the new windows, feel free to check them for the most up-to-date offers and prices. In order to avoid any confusion with all the numbers in the chart, we have used batteries' specifications taken from the official Renogy web site. Also, data over time may change as new models (and sub-models) are released on the market.
Renogy 12V 100Ah batteries feature nominal voltage of 12 volts for Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries and 12.8 volts for lithium batteries.
Nominal 20h capacity differ, with 104Ah for AGM and 100Ah for 'Pure Gel' and 'Hybrid Gel'. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries feature 5h capacity of 100Ah (also often labeled as 0.2C capacity).
As the discharge current is increased, actual capacity of the SLA (AGM, Gel Cell) batteries drops significantly, which is typical for all of the lead-acid batteries, not just Renogy models. On the other hand, actual capacity loss of the lithium batteries is almost negligible.
Size and Weight
All Renogy 12V 100Ah batteries are either BCI Group 31 or very close fit:
- AGM and 'Hybrid Gel' are BCI Group 31 batteries,
- 'Pure Gel' battery is often labeled as BCI Group 31 battery, but it is actually slightly too long (by 0.2 inches, ~0.5 cm) - it can fit most 31 battery compartments, but check it first,
- Renogy RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 lithium battery may fit into BCI Group 24T battery compartment, but it may also fit into BCI Group 31 battery compartment if the battery compartment is slightly taller than nominal group 31 battery (9.7 vs 9.0 inches - less than of an inch difference),
- Renogy RBT100LFP12S-G1 battery is a close fit to the BCI Group 65 batteries, but it can also be stored in the battery compartment intended for group 31 batteries.
AGM and Gel batteries weigh between 60 and 66 pounds (between 27.2 and 29.9 kg), and lithium batteries weigh 28.1 and 26 pounds (12.75 and 11.8 kg respectively) - weight difference is significant, and replacing lead-acid batteries with lithium batteries may lead to great weight savings, which may be very important for boats, electric vehicles, RVs, etc.
Charging and Discharging Currents
AGM battery may provide 1100 Amps for 5 seconds, 'Hybrid Gel' may provide 1000 Amps for 5 seconds, 'Pure Gel' doesn't state maximum allowed current, but it can provide 335 Amps for 5 minutes (down to 1.60 volts/cell, 9.6 volts/battery), RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 lithium battery features cut-off at 150 Amps, while RNG100LFP12S-G1 lithium battery may provide 130 Amps for 60 seconds and features cut-off at 150 Amps.
Maximum allowed current closely follows internal resistance, which is ~4.9 mΩ for AGM, ~6.0 mΩ for 'Hybrid Gel', ~7.1 mΩ for 'Pure Gel', and ~30 mΩ for lithium batteries for example, when the AGM battery is being discharged with 100Amp, battery voltage drop is ~0.5 volts, but when lithium batteries are discharged using the same 100 Amps, the voltage drop is ~3 volts, and that is a big difference.
On the other hand, the maximum charging current for lithium batteries is 50 Amps, allowing these batteries to be fully recharged rather quickly. Maximum charging current for AGM and 'Hybrid Gel' battery is 30 Amps and 'only' 15 Amps for 'Pure Gel' battery.
When charging these batteries, one should use intelligent battery chargers/charge controllers and set them according to the battery being charged.

Number of Charging/Discharging Cycles - Battery Durability
Renogy 12V 100Ah AGM battery is true deep cycle battery with reasonably good starting characteristics - nonetheless, it should be used in cyclic applications requiring relatively large currents. The less the battery is being discharged, the more cycles it can endure.
As such AGM battery features the smallest number of deep charge/discharge cycles, when compared with other Renogy 12V 100Ah batteries.
'Hybrid Gel' is intended for applications where strong currents are rare (below several 100s of Amps), and larger number of charging/discharging cycles is required. Also, it features much longer Standby Life than AGM battery, somewhat smaller self-discharge rate and longer warranty period.
When used as intended, 'Pure Gel' is rather durable battery, being able to withstand twice the number of charging/discharging cycles of AGM battery. It is also some 10% lighter, has excellent Standby Life, very low self-discharge rate, but it also has very low charging current of 'only' 15 Amps - ideal for solar, wind and similar off-the-grid applications.
Depending on the discharge conditions, Renogy lithium batteries feature 10-20(!) times larger number of charging/discharging cycles than AGM/Gel Cell batteries, making them ideal for applications where batteries work hard and get charged/discharged very often - electric vehicles, for example.
Also, lithium batteries feature the longest warranty period of 5 years.
Due to the differences in their features and characteristics, the prices of these batteries also vary:
Note: More expensive battery is not necessarily better - choose the battery according to your own needs and requirements.

Note: data over time may change as new models (and sub-models) are released on the market.
Typically for lead-acid battery, Renogy AGM battery loses its effective capacity as the discharge current is increased.
As lead-acid battery, Renogy RNG-BATT-AGM12-100 may be quickly recharged (~4 hours) using 30 Amps intelligent AGM battery charger even when discharged almost fully (100% DoD, 0% SoC).
As such, when being discharged for 5 minutes down to 9.6 volts (1.60 volts per cell), Renogy RNG-BATT-AGM12-100 is able to provide ~330 Amps (constant current discharge) or ~3470 watts (constant power discharge).
Since it is able to provide 1200 Amps for 5 seconds (brand new, fully charged battery @77°F, 25°C) it can be used in the single-battery systems are both starting/cranking battery for smaller gas/diesel engines and as deep discharge battery for systems like GPS, alarms, navigation lights, pumps, ventilators and similar.
Note: when the battery is older, when the weather is colder, and the battery is not fully charged, its ability to crank the internal combustion engines is decreased - don't ever forget that!

Typically for lead-acid battery, Renogy 'Hybrid Gel' battery loses its effective capacity as the discharge current is increased.
As one can see from the discharging charts 'Pure Gel' is generally better performer than 'Hybrid Gel', even when the currents are relatively large.
Note: at the moment of writing this article, Renogy doesn't provide 'Hybrid Gel' discharge charts for discharge times less than 60 minutes.
As gel cell battery, Renogy RBT100GEL12-G1 'Hybrid Gel' battery has very long standby life, much longer than AGM battery.
Personally, author of this article favors older 'Pure Gel' and not newer 'Hybrid Gel' for most applications.
But, the greatest issue of the 'Pure Gel' battery is its low charging current (only 15 Amps for 100Ah battery) and that may be of an issue for applications that require their battery to be charged as quickly as possible - and that is where 'Hybrid Gel' kicks in, especially if the application requires short burst of strong current (starting an internal combustion engine on a generator, perhaps).
Which one is better, 'Pure Gel' or 'Hybrid Gel' depends on the actual application.

Renogy 12V 100Ah Lithium-Iron Phosphate Battery (RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100) Features and Specifications
Renogy Lithium-Iron Phosphate Battery (RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100) is rather lightweight 12V 100Ah battery, weighing less than half of the AGM or Gel 12V 100Ah batteries.
Internally, Renogy RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 is constructed using IFR26650-3.4Ah cells, assembled as 4S30P in order to create 12.8 volts 100 Ah battery. Also, to protect the battery, it features advanced Battery Management System (BMS) protecting the battery from typical conditions that may damage the battery like overcharge, overdischarge, short circuit, overheating etc.
Recommended discharge current for Renogy RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 is around 0.2C (20 Amps), but the battery can easily handle much larger currents, up to 100Amps.
Renogy RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 also features 150 Amps cut-off system, to prevent the damage due to the too large current, 10 volts overdischarge cut-off, 14.6 volts overcharge cut-off and similar.
Note: prior getting this or any other lithium battery, be sure to read the instructions/manual that may be downloaded from various sites like Amazon, Renogy and similar.
Also, one of the most important advantages of lithium batteries is number of charging/discharging cycles - RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 tolerates up to 7000 charging/discharging cycles down to 50% DoD or up to 2000 charging/discharging cycles down to 100% DoD (0.2C discharging current).
Also, actual capacity is almost unaffected by the discharge current.
Maximum charging current is 50 Amps, allowing the battery to be fully recharged in 2 hours, even when almost fully discharged.
RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 warranty period is 5 years, which is even longer than the warranty period of gel-cell batteries (3 years).
On the other hand, RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 and other similar lithium batteries require battery chargers intended for lithium batteries and they cost several times more than AGM and gel-cell batteries.
But, if the weight reduction is of the great importance, just as the longevity of the battery, RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 is excellent choice.
In order to achieve greater capacities, RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 may be connected in parallel.
Note: never, but really never connect RNG-BATT-LFP-12-100 in series in order to create 24V, 36V etc battery pack!
