Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 Features and Specifications
Shorai LFX19A4-BS12's physical dimensions are (L x W x H) 5.83x 3.39 x 3.46 inches (~148 x 86 x 88 mm) - Shorai's case size #4, and it weighs just 2.47 pounds (1.12 kg).
On average, Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 is an ultra-light battery featuring 20-25% weight of the lead-acid batteries it is intended to replace.
With its 285 Amps CCA rating, the Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 lithium cranking battery is designed to replace lead-acid AGM starting batteries of ~19 Ah or less if it can fit the battery compartment.
Most often, Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 is smaller than the battery it is intended to replace - fortunately, self-adhesive foam spacers are included.
When mounting the battery, be sure about its orientation - positive ("+") terminal is to the left, and negative ("-") terminal is to the right.
Since lithium iron phosphate batteries are safer than other lithium chemistries, Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 batteries are delivered fully charged.
Also, it obviously features zero sulfation and ensures faster cranking.
How to Charge and Maintain Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 Battery?
Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 is a drop-in replacement for similar AGM batteries in Powersports vehicles.
Its voltage should be kept between 13.1 volts and 14.8 volts - if the vehicle has an alternator to charge the AGM battery, it will also charge the Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 battery.
Note: charging system output voltage should never pass 15.2 volts, or it may damage the battery. The maximum charging current is 19 Amps, allowing the electric system or user to recharge the Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 battery quickly.
However, when charging this battery directly, keep in mind the following:
- Older lead chargers without automatic charging shut-off should never be used for safety reasons.
- Modern, automatic lead battery chargers with automatic charging shut-off at 14.8 volts can be used ONLY if the desulfation mode can be turned off. But, after the charging is done, they must be disconnected at once. Better safe than sorry.
- The use of the Shorai SHO-BMS01 Lithium Battery Charger/Maintainer/Balancer is highly recommended. First of all, Shorai SHO-BMS01 is NOT connected to the terminals but to the special port on the battery, allowing it to check, balance, and charge every battery cell individually, greatly increasing its operating life, safety, and reliability.
And if Shorai SHO-BMS01 cables are too short, one can get an "extension" cable as well.
Note: Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 is an excellent and affordable starting lithium battery, but it lacks a built-in battery management system (BMS) that would monitor and balance battery cells individually. That is why these batteries tend to be slightly cheaper than similar starting batteries with full BMS installed.
If you need just one lithium starting battery, getting one lithium starting battery with a BMS system can be cheaper than getting both the Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 battery and the Shorai SHO-BMS01 battery charger.
If you need more than one lithium starting battery, getting one Shorai SHO-BMS01 and several Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 can save You some money, too.
On the other hand, many users purchased the Shorai LFX19A4-BS12 battery without Shorai SHO-BMS01 Charger/Balancer/Maintainer and are more than pleased with the purchase.
Often, it all depends on the used vehicle(s) and personal habits.
