Weize TPLI-12200AH 12V 200Ah Deep Cycle Lithium Battery

Weize TPLI-12200AH battery is a lightweight lithium deep cycle battery intended for off-the-grid applications, as an inverter battery, as a trolling motor battery, as an RV house battery, and similar.

Weize TPLI-12200AH battery accepts charge rather fast, supports a relatively strong discharge current (but could be better), and comes with the built-in BMS that protects the battery from unwanted events like overcharge, over-discharge, low and high temperature, etc.

Weize TPLI-12200Ah 12V 200Ah Battery Features and Specifications

Weize TPLI-12200Ah 12V 200Ah battery is based on the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry featuring 3.2V per cell.

The battery comes with a nominal voltage of 12.8V, a nominal capacity of 200Ah, and is able to store, at least in theory, 2560 Wh of energy - in the real life, capacity and voltage drop when being discharged also cause a drop in the actually stored energy in the battery.

Note: this voltage and capacity drop is not as significant as the voltage and capacity drop in lead-acid batteries.

Weize TPLI-12200Ah battery features physical dimensions of (L x W x H) 20.5 x 8.58 x 9.45 inches (~52.1 x 21.8 x 24 cm) and it belongs to the BCI Group 4D. Also, it weighs 27.6(?!) pounds (~12.5 kg), making it one of the lightest 12V 200Ah lithium batteries.

Note: we didn't have an opportunity to directly weigh the Weize TPLI-12200Ah battery, but 27.6 pounds for a 12V 200Ah battery sounds ultralightweight - personally, I wouldn't be surprised that this battery weighs 27.6 kg (~61 pounds) and not 27.6 pounds.

The battery features M8/F12 battery terminals, ensuring a good and firm connection between the battery terminals and cables.

Weize TPLI-12200Ah 12V 200Ah battery features an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) that protects the battery from various unwanted events, including overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and low and high temperature.

The operating temperature for charging is between 0°C and 45°C and the operating temperature for discharging is between -20°C and 60°C.

The maximum continuous charging current is 100 Amps, with 40 Amps being the maximum recommended charging current - the Weize 12V 200Ah can be recharged within two hours, but it is recommended to charge it for 5 hours from 100% DoD to 100% SoC.

Recommended charging voltage is 14.4V with the maximum recommended charging voltage of 14.6V.

Weize 12V 200Ah battery features a very low self-discharge rate, but it is recommended to recharge it every 3 months when the battery is being stored away - store it at room temperatures, avoiding high temperatures that can decrease the battery's lifespan.

Like many similar Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, the Weize TPLI-12200Ah 12V 200Ah battery also supports a much larger number of charging/discharging cycles when compared with deep cycle lead-acid batteries:

- 2000+ cycles @0.5C down to 100% DoD,

- 8000+ cycles @0.5C down to 50% DoD.

BMS also allows up to 4 batteries to be connected in parallel or up to 4 batteries to be connected in series, allowing the users to create battery packs with a capacity up to 800Ah or to create battery packs with a nominal voltage up to 48V (51.2V).

When the BMS detects the unwanted event, it disconnects the battery from the rest of the world - the BMS will reconnect the battery within 1 second after removing the cause for activating the battery protection.

How To Charge the Weize 12V 200Ah Lithium Deep Cycle Battery

Since it is based on the LiFePO4 chemistry and features built-in BMS, the Weize 12V 200Ah battery should be recharged with a charger or charge controller that is intended for charging lithium batteries using CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) or similar lithium battery charging algorithm.

Advanced battery chargers intended for AGM and similar lead-acid batteries are not a good choice since they often feature a desulfation charging mode where the charger sends short, high-voltage pulses that may even damage the BMS.

Older lead-acid battery chargers generally can be used to charge Weize 12V 200Ah and similar lithium batteries, but such chargers can recharge lithium batteries only up to 80-90% SoC.

Note: Weize 12V 200Ah battery is not a cheap battery, so if you intend to buy it, do yourself a favor and get a dedicated lithium battery charger or an advanced battery charger that features a dedicated lithium battery charging mode.

The battery can be also recharged using a solar battery charge controller that supports the charging of the lithium batteries.

With a maximum charging voltage of 14.6V and a maximum charging current of 100A (40A recommended), when the solar battery charge controller features 85% energy efficiency, one needs up to ~1700W of ideal solar panels, or up to 3000-3500W solar panels with an efficiency of 50% in order to charge the battery at 100A rate.

If the battery is going to be charged at a rate of 25A for a period of ~8 hours, one needs ~800-900W of solar panels, combined with a suitable solar lithium battery charge controller.

Weize 12V 200Ah Lithium Battery As Trolling Motor Battery

With its high capacity of 200Ah and the maximum continuous current of 100A, the Weize 12V 200Ah battery can be used as excellent ultralight electric trolling motor battery.

When the battery is fully charged and is used to power an electric trolling motor at a rate of 50A, the battery is able to power it for up to 4 hours down to 100% DoD.

When the battery is discharged down to 80% DoD, one can expect 3+ hours of operation.

Since electric trolling motors are rarely operated at 100% of their maximum power, trolling time can be significantly longer - for example, 6 hours @30A down to 90% DoD or similar.

Weize 12V 200Ah Lithium Battery As A Power Inverter Battery

Weize 12V 200Ah lithium battery is often used as an off-the-grid battery in RVs, in emergencies, during blackouts, and similar.

Weize 12V 200Ah lithium battery can be easily recharged using a suitable battery charger powered by a power generator or solar battery charge controller with enough solar panels.

When the battery is connected to the power inverter, it can be used to power various home appliances, tools, gadgets, and other devices.

For example, when the Weize 12V 200Ah battery is connected to the 1000W power inverter with energy efficiency of 85%, it can power such system for 2+ hours:

Pbat = 1000W / 0.85 = 1176 Watts

Ibat = 1176W /12V = ~98 Amps

When the Weize 12V 200Ah battery is connected to a 1000W 85% efficiency power inverter, the battery must be able to provide ~1176 watts in order for the inverter to provide 1000W - these 176 Watts difference is dissipated as heat.

For the battery to provide 1176W at 12V, the battery must provide ~98 Amps - since lithium batteries don't suffer from the capacity loss when being discharged with relatively strong currents, a fully charged Weize 12V 200Ah battery can provide 98A for ~2 hours.

Note: for safety reasons, we have calculated battery voltage as being 12V and not 12.8V or slightly less, meaning that the actual current would be slightly less than 98 Amps - lithium batteries are also much more energy efficient than lead-acid batteries.

Since the Weize 12V 200Ah battery can provide 200A for 3 seconds, it is strong enough to provide power for power surges of up to 2000W at the power inverter's output.

However, the only thing that we must note is its weight - again, we didn't have the opportunity to put this battery on the weight scale to check its weight. 27.6 pounds for a 12V 200Ah battery would be a fantastic result, too fantastic in our opinion.
