Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS Batteries Features and Specifications

Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS batteries are very similar batteries - they are both Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) Powersports starting batteries with the same physical dimensions of (L x W x H) 6.88 x 3.42 x 6.10 inches (175 x 87 x 155 mm). They belong to the YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS battery groups, respectively.

Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS batteries are designed to be resilient to mechanical vibrations and impacts and to perform well in both hot and cold environments.

However, to prolong their lifetime, avoid mechanical damage and use/store the batteries as much as possible at room temperature - avoid extreme heat and extremely cold weather.

Note: If you do need a battery for extreme weather, these batteries are a good choice since all lead-acid batteries have similar limitations.

Both batteries feature a nominal voltage of 12V and a 10h capacity of 18Ah. Also, both batteries feature a negative battery terminal on the left side (hence the "L" part of the label) and a positive battery terminal on the right side.

The main difference between these batteries is their weight and CCA rating:

• Weize YTX20HL-BS: 12.85 lbs (5.82 kg), 310 CCA

As one can see, Weize YTX20HL-BS battery is a somewhat heavier battery, but it also can crank 310 CCA vs. 270 CCA - the extra "H" letter in its label means "High Performance" battery.

This difference in weight is negligible, but the difference in CCA can be important in certain situations.

These batteries are often offered at (almost) the same price. Although Weize YTX20L-BS is an excellent battery, Weize YTX20HL-BS is even better in terms of performances - if the price is the same or almost the same, go for the Weize YTX20HL-BS battery. But, if the price difference is larger, or Weize YTX2HL-BS is not available, know that WEize YTX20L-BS is also a great choice.

Starting, Dual-Purpose, or Deep Cycle Batteries

Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS batteries are starting AGM batteries, and as such, they tolerate parasite loads and being semi-discharged better than older wet/flooded batteries.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't provide the exact number of charging/discharging cycles at a certain DoD%, but, if you discharge them a few times down to 50% DoD and then recharge them right away to 100% SoC, they will do just fine.

However, if you try to discharge them several hundred times down to 50% DoD (or even down to 80% DoD), that will shorten their lifetime.

How To Charge Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS Batteries

Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS batteries should be charged with the built-in battery chargers/alternators found on motorcycles, ATVs, boats, and other similar vehicles/vessels/applications.

However, if these batteries must be recharged while being disconnected from their vehicle, then one should use advanced AGM battery charger that analyzes the batteries first and then charges the batteries according to their condition.

The manufacturer recommends charging these batteries with 1.8 Amps - feel free to use 1.5-2.0 Amps battery chargers.

Also, when the battery is fully charged, the battery charger should switch from charging the battery to maintaining the battery fully charged (battery charger AND maintainer).

When the 12V 18Ah battery is discharged down to 50% DoD and it requires some 9Ah of charge, 2 Amps battery charger can fully recharge such battery in ~5-5.5h without stressing the battery with too strong charging current.

Long Story Short: Weize YTX20L-BS and YTX20HL-BS batteries are very popular Powersports batteries due to their well-balanced design, good performances, and acceptable price.
