If the positive terminal is on the right and negative on the left, then the battery gets suffix 'L' - YTX14L-BS.

YTX14-BS batteries are mostly lead-acid batteries with some manufacturers offering lithium batteries as well.

Lead-acid YTX14-BS batteries feature 12-14 Ah 10h capacity and 190-220 CCA Amps and are charged with onboard chargers (alternator powered by internal combustion engine) or by smart lead-acid battery charters.

Lead-acid YTX14 batteries may be wet/flooded or AGM or Gel-cell sealed batteries ('BS' - 'Battery Sealed').

Lithium YTX14-BS batteries feature starting/cranking Amps in the 300-500 Amps range, but mostly at room temperatures.

Note: AGM and Gel-Cell batteries are low maintenance batteries and are highly recommended over wet/flooded cell batteries.

The price of the AGM/Gel-cel YTX14-BS batteries varies between the brands, with the price of top models being shown in the following list:

Lithium YTX14-BS batteries are not as common as AGM/Gel batteries - Lithium YTX14-BS batteries are much lighter than lead-acid batteries while offering the same or even better performances. Also, lithium batteries often cost much more than lead-acid batteries.

Most lithium YTX14-BS batteries may be used in vehicles with alternators designed for charging lead-acid batteries - just in case, it is a good practice to check the documentation of the battery.

If the lithium battery is NOT intended as 'drop-in replacement', but it is nonetheless connected to the alternator, there is a great chance that such battery will overheat, catch fire or even explode - seriously!

'Drop-in' replacements or not, lithium batteries should not be charged with lead-acid battery chargers that feature desulphation charging mode - energy pulses required for desulphation may damage the lithium batteries even with built-in Battery Management Systems (BMS).

Personally: unless You are pro driver, go for good AGM/Gel YTX14-BS battery and charge it with onboard battery charger (alternator + some control electronics) or by using smart AGM battery charger (set to the proper battery type).

Starting, Dual-Purpose or Deep Cycle YTX14-BS Battery

YTX14-BS batteries are designed as starting/cranking batteries and are not intended for deep cycle applications.

However, AGM/Gel batteries may be from time to time discharged down to 50-60% of DoD without adverse effects on the battery's longevity, just note that as the battery gets older and its SoC (State of Charge) gets lower (below 30-40%), its cranking capabilities are also lower.

So, can YTX14-BS batteries be used 'sometimes' as fish finder battery, kayak trolling motor battery, compressor/air pump battery, and similar - yes, they can be used, just don't discharge them below 50% DoD/SoC.

Even discharging them 'once' or 'twice' below 20% SoC (80% DoD) will not harm the battery in any noticeable way, especially if it is recharged fully right away using smart AGM/Gel battery charger.

However, be sure not to make it a habit - regularly discharging starting batteries below 50% SoC and especially below 20% SoC can significantly shorten their lifetime.

How to Charge YTX14-BS Batteries?

When the YTX14-BS batteries are connected to the vehicle's electric system, the onboard alternator and the control electronics keep the battery charged, regardless of the battery type.

However, when the batteries are for some reason taken outside the vehicle, they can be recharged using various battery chargers.

Lead-acid AGM, Gel-Cell, Wet/Flooded, and Enhanced Flooded batteries should be charged with the advanced smart lead-acid battery chargers with a maximum charging current of around 2 Amps.

These battery chargers analyze the battery first and only then start the recharging process which may if required, include even desulphation and equalization modes.

And when the battery is fully charged, such smart battery chargers automatically switch to the maintenance mode, maintaining the battery fully charged.

When the lithium YTX14-BS batteries are charged using a battery charger, one must use a dedicated lithium battery charger or intelligent AGM battery charger that also features a dedicated lithium battery charging mode.

Although lithium batteries may accept charge faster than lead-acid batteries, they should be charged with battery chargers with a maximum charging current of around 2-3 Amps using the Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charging algorithm.

Such battery chargers may recharge lithium YTX14-BS batteries rather quickly, without overstressing them with excess current.
